Interesting article over on techdirt.com around a video on YouTube called ‘How To Sell A Million Albums And Still Owe $500,000′. While being USA-centric it does throw up some interesting points on outdated clauses in contracts some musicians lock themselves into, and how some of these clauses, while being for the most part redundant in the age of digital formats, are still being used to let labels take a bigger slice of proceeds from album sales.

Festivals Britannia

If you weren’t lucky enough to catch the brilliant and engaging Festivals Britannia documentary on BBC4 last week you can still catch it on iPlayer for the next few days. Featuring interviews with Melvin Benn, John Giddings, Ray Faulk and Michael and Emily Eavis, the documentary charted the history of festivals in the UK from the jazz festivals of the 1950′s, the hippy 70′s, political culture of festivals in the 80′s, the free party explosion in the 90′s, through to the mainstream part of British life as we know it today.

Spotify Coming To Facebook

Facebook are set to unveil a new partnership with streaming music service Spotify in the very near future, filling the gap left by Facebook’s failed alliance with Apple’s Ping service.

This service is reportedly not expected to be available in the US however, as it will be restricted to countries where Spotify already has a presence.

Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2 Sponsors Katy Perry Tour

Already one of the most popular video games available, Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2 is looking to gain some more market share and awareness by sponsoring pop star Katy Perry’s upcoming North American tour.

Ubisoft’s promotion of the California Dreams 2011 tour includes a contest in which fans can record themselves dancing along to Perry’s hit, “Firework,” via its inclusion on Just Dance 2. Contest winners will receive VIP tickets and meet-and-greet passes to one of Perry’s shows across the U.S. and Canada.
